The son of a famous Qami tribal leader Malik Jamil was killed while four others suffered grave injuries in a remote-controlled roadside bomb attack in Kari Kot Bazaar in Wana Tehsil on Sunday(September 8).
Though the tribal leader narrowly escaped the attack his son Shamsuddin Wazir succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Four other inmates of the tribal leader also got injured in the attack.
As per sources, “an explosion occurred in the car of Malik Jamill, the local leader in the Kot area near Wana that lies in the tribal district of South Waziristan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province which borders Afghanistan.
The Police said that till now no group had claimed responsibility for the explosion, and the investigation is ongoing.
Malik Jamil is the leader of the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe and often criticises the security policies of the state during Pashtun national jirgas decisions and protests.
Local people also claimed that the tribal leader had conflicts with the security and administrative authorities of the region for some time.
Jamil’s son Shamsuddin was a sociology student at Punjab University and a member of the Pashtun Educational Development Movement.
He was an active campaigner for the education of Pashtun youth, especially girls. His death is considered a great loss for the region.
Recently, incidents of insecurity have increased in other tribal districts bordering Waziristan and Afghanistan.
The government of Pakistan has approved the launch of a new operation to eliminate the militants, but the people of the region oppose this military operation.
