Gau Rakshak and Bajrang Dal member Mohit Yadav aka Monu Manesar was arrested by the Haryana Police on 12th September, Tuesday, for allegedly uploading ‘objectionable and inflammatory’ posts on various social media platforms.
As per a report by the Indian Express, “After the violence on July 31, Nuh police had been regularly scanning social media posts for objectionable content. In one such case, a person was found putting up a series of objectionable posts. Tracing those posts, raids were conducted at certain locations, and the person was apprehended. He was found to be Monu Manesar who was using a fictitious name to upload objectionable posts.”
Manesar was named as one of the 21 accused in the FIR filed about the murder of two cousins from Rajasthan, who were found in Bhiwani, Haryana on 16th February.
Although, as per the Rajasthan police’s statement in August, Monu Manesar wasn’t allegedly directly involved in the double murder case. DGP Umesh Mishra said, ‘Let me also tell you that he is not among those who were directly involved or were present on the spot or had direct involvement in the incident. However, police are investigating whether he played any indirect role in this case or not.’
On 31st July, Haryana’s Nuh faced communal riots when Islamists attacked Hindu devotees in a Shobha Yatra carried out by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in which seven people were killed.
It was said that Gau Rakshak Monu Manesar was supposed to attend the event, but threats were already issued in his name. Several WhatsApp groups were created and Facebook posts were made in order to incite people and pre-plan the attack in advance.
