On Monday, 31 July, 2023, a Shobha Yatra carried out by VHP was attacked in Nuh district of Haryana. At least four people, including two home guards, were killed and around 12 police personnel were reported to be injured in the violence. The injuries were allegedly sustained from the gunshots and stone pelting.
As previously reported by The Pamphlet, the incident was a well-pre-planned conspiracy. The VHP was conducting its annual Shobha Yatra from Nalhad Mahadev Temple which was to be concluded at Shringar Temple, Punhana. However, members of Muslim community resorted to stone pelting, attacked the procession and even set the vehicles on fire.
Rescue Operation
As soon as the state administration came to know about the incident, internet services were suspended in the Nuh district till August 2nd. Section 144 was also imposed in Gurgaon district. All private and educational institutions will remain closed in Palwal on August 1st. The State Home Minister Anil Vij sought additional forces from the Centre and claimed that, “3,000-4,000 people were being held hostage in a temple”. All those who took refuge in the Narhar temple were rescued later in the evening. Anil Vij also assured the people that those who are stranded will be airlifted from Nuh.
District Magistrate of Gurgaon, Nishant Yadav, said that a paramilitary force is being deployed in the area and flag marches will be conducted. ASP of Nuh district also stated that “It is a very unfortunate incident that took place between the members of two communities. The situation is under control. Action will be taken against all those found guilty. Some casualties are there and among those injured, there are members of the police personnel as well as the members of the communities who were involved in the clashes. A few people have been arrested and on the basis of the videos available, the guilty will be arrested.”
A total of about 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces(CAPFs), including CRPF, BSF and ITBP, have been sent to Haryana’s Nuh by the MHA to maintain law and order situation. 12 among those companies are RAF. Security has further been beefed up in Sector 57 of the Gurgaon region
People Injured
Nuh police PRO further stated that one person,, who has not been identified yet was declared dead at Shaheed Hassan Khan Mewat hospital.
Also one of the deceased who succumbed to his injuries in the Mewat attack was 24 year-old Abhishek, a resident of Noorwala in Panipat.
Pre-planned attack?
Mewat region is notorious for crimes such as forced religious conversion, illegal cow slaughter and illegal Rohingya settlements. Monu Manesar, who leads a network of gau rakshaks, was supposed to attend the ‘Shobha yatra’ event. However, the Islamists in Mewat were ready to attack the procession and had even issued threats against Manesar.
