In Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, a shocking incident happened where a pregnant cow was slaughtered, its head cut off, and the unborn calf removed from its womb. The cow’s meat was also allegedly taken. This happened in Salkoda village on January 18, and the cow belonged to a man named Krishna Achari. He realized something was wrong when the cow didn’t return home after grazing. The next morning, on January 19, Achari found the remains of the cow, and he reported it to the police.
This is not the first case like this. Earlier in Bengaluru’s Chamarajpet area, three cows were injured during a festival, with their udders cut. In that case, the Bengaluru police arrested a 30-year-old man, Syed Nasru, who is originally from Bihar. These cases have caused anger and fear among people, especially those who consider cows sacred.
The BJP has strongly condemned the incident. Former Deputy Chief Minister R. Ashoka called it a ‘jihadi plot’ and accused the Congress government of failing to maintain law and order. He said the Congress is showing weakness and appeasing certain groups, allowing such crimes to happen. Ashoka warned of protests across the state if strict action isn’t taken immediately.
On the other hand, the Congress government has promised to investigate and punish those responsible. Home Minister G. Parameshwara said these actions could create tension among people and must be stopped. He asked the police to thoroughly investigate whether such crimes are planned by groups or are done individually. Animal Husbandry Minister K. Venkatesh called the act inhumane and said the government is taking the matter very seriously. The Chief Minister has also been informed about this issue.
