Soon after violence broke out in Mewat’s Nuh in Haryana social media was flooded with reports about a mosque in Gurugram set on fire. Many Muslim Twitter users, including those who identify themselves as journalists, claimed that the masjid was set on fire by Bajrang Dal activists Praveen Hindustani and Amit Hindu.
Meer Faisal, a serial fake news peddler, tweeted at 1:49 AM claiming that the masjid in sector 57 of Gurugram was set on fire by Praveen Hindustani and Amit Hindu.
This news was further amplified by many Muslim Twitter users.
Most of the Muslim Twitter users amplified the same tweet that Meer Faisal tweeted using almost similar text.
It was almost as if the same message was circulated on messaging platforms such as WhatsApp from where many people would have taken it further to propagate.
However, this is fake. Praveen Hindustani and Amit Hindu, two Bajrang Dal activists, were nowhere near the masjid when it was set ablaze. Speaking to The Pamphlet, Praveen Hindustani said that they had gone to Mewat and got stuck there when the violence broke out after Muslim mob attacked the Shobha Yatra. “I was stuck in Mewat for 9 hours, reached home at 1 AM. The police escorted us till the highway from there we reached home. I don’t even know when this incident happened,” Praveen Hindustani told The Pamphlet.
Praveen Hindustani and Amit Hindu have been on the target of Islamists, said a source in know of the things. “After Monu Manesar, these two have given them a tough time because they would stop the criminal activities. Hence they are being targeted in this manner. This is just painting a target on them next,” the source said.
“How can they put such allegations like this? Police dropped us at KMP and from there we came to Manesar. Amit was also with me and we both came to his house. We were not even close to where the incident happened,” said Praveen Hindustani.
