Farmers from 20 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Agra, are marching towards the Parliament complex in Delhi today. This march, led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), is being held to demand better compensation and benefits under agricultural laws. The protest will begin at 12 pm near the Mahamaya Flyover, with farmers traveling on foot and using tractors. Due to the protest, security has been increased, and traffic routes in Delhi-NCR have been changed.
The farmers have five main demands. First, 10% of the land acquired from farmers should be given to them as plots. Second, compensation under the old land acquisition law should be increased by 64.7%. Third, farmers want compensation to be four times the market rate. Fourth, 20% of plots should be given for land acquired after January 1, 2014. Finally, they want employment and rehabilitation benefits for the children of landless farmers. They also demand proper government orders on the decisions made by a High Power Committee and proper settlement for people living in populated areas.
To manage the situation, barriers have been set up at places like Chilla Border, DND Border, and Mahamaya Flyover. Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena has said that a large number of police officers are stationed at these points. Checkpoints have also been placed on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway to check vehicles.
Traffic routes have been diverted. Vehicles traveling from the Chilla Border towards Greater Noida are being directed via the Sector 14A flyover. Vehicles from the DND Border to Delhi are being diverted through the Film City Flyover in Sector 18. Those traveling from Kalindi Border to Delhi are being redirected through Mahamaya Flyover via Sector 37. Traffic from Greater Noida to Delhi is being sent through Kalindi Kunj from Charkha roundabout. Routes from Hajipur underpass, Sirsa, and Parichowk are also being used for traffic. Goods vehicles are not allowed on routes like Yamuna Expressway to Delhi and Sirsa to Surajpur via Pari Chowk.
Earlier, farmers had protested at the Greater Noida Authority on November 27 and at the Yamuna Authority from November 28 to December 1. Other farmer groups, such as Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukt Kisan Morcha, are also planning protests on December 6. They are demanding a guaranteed Minimum Support Price (MSP) and other reforms.
This protest is peaceful, with a major focus on demands for compensation, employment, and better policies for farmers. The traffic is heavily impacted in the region due to the protest.
