Slain gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed’s lawyer, Vijay Mishra was arrested late on Saturday night by the Uttar Pradesh Police with help of Special Task Force (STF) from outside Hotel Hyatt Legacy in Lucknow in connection to Umesh Pal Murder Case. Mishra is accused of sharing Pal’s location from Prayagraj Court before he was shot along with two policemen on 24 February this year.
Mishra is arrested under various sections of the IPC, Explosives Act, Criminal Law Amendment Act and SC/ST Act.
Umesh Pal Murder Case
Umesh Pal, the main witness in the Raju Pal Murder Case, was killed earlier this year on 24 February. BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead in February 2005 who won 2004 November byelections by defeating Atiq’s brother Ashraf Ahmed. Ashraf and Atiq were main accused in the case. The two gangster-politician brothers were shot dead on 15 April, 2023 outside a hospital in Prayagraj when they were being taken for medical checkup by the police.
Police say that Mishra gave the location of Umesh Pal to the shooter who killed him in February. The video of Umesh Pal’s murder had gone viral on social media. Following the incident, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had vowed in state assembly that he would destroy the mafia in the state. Mishra’s arrest was made on basis of the statement of Khan Saulat Hanif and the mobile phone details.
Mishra is also a wanted in a Rs 3 crore extortion case registered at Atarsuiya police station.
