After the killing of a top Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan(TTP) commander Rahimullah, widely known as Shaheed Umar Bajauri, the differences among Taliban fighters have escalated to the point of physical elimination.
Bajaruri was a prominent Pakistani Taliban commander, who was also a member of its military commission. He was recently killed on December 3 alongside his three associates during a gathering in the guesthouse of Qari Khalid, a former investigation director at Kunar’s intelligence department.
Qari Khalid had been appointed to the Kunar border management position through the mediation of Haji Usman. Haji Usman Turabi is the former governor of Kunar province for the Taliban.
Bajauri’s killing has now been blamed on a local Taliban official. It is alleged that the act was carried out under the direction and resources of Pakistani intelligence.
It is important to note that the Pakistani military had already offered a bounty of 10 million rupees for his capture. Following this incident, discussions have arisen within the Taliban ranks about the possibility that some of their key members are still connected to foreign intelligence agencies.
The death of Bajauri came as a huge setback for the TTP. He was the group’s senior military strategist and had planned many attacks against the Pakistani military in the past.
His presence and assassination in Afghanistan have again underscored concerns about Afghanistan being a haven for terror groups and extremists, particularly the TTP.
